We charge as a percentage of the construction costs, on an hourly rate of £60 per hour, or as a lump sum, depending on our client’s preference. Most clients prefer to be charged on an hourly rate with an agreed fee cap. Invoices are issued monthly or at the end of key stages of the project.
Our fees depend on the size and complexity of the project in question so it is not possible to specify these before we have understood your needs. However, as a rule of thumb, the fee for a full architectural service on a small domestic project normally works out at 12-18% of the construction cost.
We charge our services with reference to the 2013 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Plan of Work. We can tell you more about this when we meet but, so that you have an initial idea of what to expect, our fee is likely to divide as follows: 10% on Stage 1 (Preparation), 30% on Stage 2-3 (Concept & Developed Design), 40% on Stages 4-5 (Technical & Specialist Design) and 20% on Stage 6 (Construction).
